Is there a way to track which extensions are using Do Not Disturb and for how long? We have a Merlin Legend 7.0 system with Merlin Messaging 2.5. Some people leave their phone on DND all the time, and our Exec wants the option disabled for everyone. I would rather deal with the small percentage who abuse it than lose my favorite phone feature altogether!

You can manually identify who is in DND through the DSS on the main console. I am not aware of any software that will identify length of time spent using that feature though.

you may be able to use legend reporter software for this, not sure. also, if they do not know the code for DND and they only have a button take it off the phones. other than that I really don't know of a way exept for Avaya customizing the codes which cost big bux!!

An operator can check the status of an extension whose red LED is on by using the programmed Inspect button (multiline 4400-Series telephones)or the fixed Inspct button (MLX telephones) to determine whether the extension is busy or using Do Not Disturb. If the user at the extension is using Do Not Disturb, the DO NOT DISTURB message is also posted and appears on the operator’s display. (The message, however, may also mean that the user has posted the message without turning on the Do Not Disturb feature.)

This information was helpful, and using the inspect button should help me solve the problem. However, when I press it at the MLX-20L console with a DSS, the only information that appears on the extension is the number of messages it has. All our multi-line analog phones have a DND button programmed; is there another step I'm missing?

Check the bottom rows of DSS buttons.

It doesn't seem to make any difference whether or not the Message Status light is on - the information still shows only the number of messages waiting, but nothing about Do Not Disturb. We have an older DSS (3156-DCBA) rather than the 4450. Does this matter?

There are two rows of buttons at the bottom of the DSS. Press the Top Left button in these two rows, and then use the inspect key. You hve the DSS in the wrong "mode"

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm still having trouble, though, and am wondering if we're referring to the same buttons.

According to my DSS manual, the first three buttons from the left of the upper of the bottom two rows are the page buttons, the first button on the left of the bottom row is the Message Status button, and all the remaining buttons in both those rows are reserved for future use.

The page buttons all work as they're supposed to, moving between the three "pages" of extensions. Whether or not I have the lower left button on or off (which, according to my manual, means whether I'm in Message Status mode or not)makes no difference in the information I get when hitting the "inspect" button. Am I still missing something? Thanks!
