We use a Merlin Magix Avaya phone system, and it outputs a call log to a text file. Currently, it only tracks outgoing calls that dial an outside number, (and the number dialed is logged) or incoming calls from an outside line (the number is not logged, it just logs the word "in").

Is there a way to 1) also log calls made internally from one extension to another? And 2) is there a way to log the incoming phone number for incoming calls?

I use WinSPM to connect to the phone system, but don't see any options for this log file? I'd like to be able to change it around, change what's logged, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Answers:

1) log calls made internally from one extension to another

Not with the Magix it self. An external CIT Program such as Taske can do that, but it is not cheap.

2) log the incoming phone number for incoming calls

Only if you have Caller ID for the Phone Company, AND, caller ID capabable Line Ports.

Thanks so much!!

as for CallerID, I know we have it from the phone company, b/c the *main* phone for the system, at the receptionist desk can see who's calling. How can I check to see if I have "caller ID capable Line Ports"? I'm thinking maybe we don't, b/c when the receptionist transfers a call to me, my display phone says "No Caller ID" on it.

As for logging internal ext. to ext. calls, I wonder why Magix can't do it within itself. Seems like that should be easier than logging the external calls.

Thanks again though!

If the recep is getting it, everyone else should too.

The line modules would say somehting like 412 ls-gs-id-tdl, since it's a Magix.

If the call is transferred to you, then you should get it too.

If she puts it on hold and you pick it up, no can do.

As far as internal calls, the designers saw no need to do that.

Who cares, there's no line access costs involved, was what drove their reasoning.

If you do not see caller ID when a call is transfered to you - it is probably because the operator is not really transfering the call (i.e., pushes transfer, your extension # and then she hangs up or she pushes an autodial button for your extension and hangs up). If she announces the call and you pick-up the line directly and then she hangs up - that is not a "transfer" - and you will not see the caller id info.

Thanks again all, I know this is an old post.

On the caller ID: My extension line is patched directly to the outside, so it can be dialed directly, however when an incoming call comes in, the display just says "Incoming Call" or something like that (I think it says "outside call")

So if the receptionist can see the numbers coming in directly, why can't my phone display the caller ID?

Thanks again for the help!

Well, make sure the caller id lines are set for "CALLER ID DELAY".

It could be that they are not set for that and only get Caller Id when she doesn't answer really fast.

As you probably know, Caller ID is delivered between the 1st & 2nd Ring from the Central Office.

The Caller ID Delay setting takes care of that.

Just a thought....YOu stated that your ext. is "patched directly to the outside, so it can be dialed directly".

With this said... Do you mean that you have x134 and someone could dial 555-555-5134 and ring your phone. If that is the case, you could have analog DID trunks and there is no Caller ID on Analog DID trunks. Hope this helps.

Thanks jinxs, that sounds right, thanks again!
