When I run 'topas' I do not get Memory and Swap statistics. Also, when I run 'xmperf' and I open a Monitor, I get the error "Spmi Error code = 197", but again I receive no Memory or Swap info.

What am I missing? A fileset possibley?

Thanks!

Yes, I do. But I have questions it's validity since topas and xmperf are unresponsive.

I get the following from vmstat:
# vmstat 2 5
kthr memory page faults cpu

Hi,

Check the output of command lslpp -ql | grep bos.perf*
the output should display all the filesets for perfagent installed and in commited state.if the fileset is not installed then install it from first cd of aix.

i hope this resolves ur problem.

arvind

fileset name is bos.peragent.tools and u can find it in first cd of aix.

All of my perforamance filesets are installed, and they are updated to their most current level. lppchk -v comes back with no errors... so I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Thanks again.

What level of bos.perfagent.tools is installed? There was a memory locking problem in some versions

Also do you have any history on this system (was it upgraded from an earlier version of the O/S)? There was a problem with SP nodes upgraded from 4.2.1 to 4.3.3 because the spmi library was moved from perfagent.server to perfagent.tools.

The fileset level is 5.1.0.25. As far as system upgrading, it has always been running AIX 5.1. It is currently at Maint 03, but it didn't work at 02 either.

I appreciate the feedback!

I thought the .25 version was ML2.

I've just checked my 5.1 ML3 machines and they have perfagent.tools at 5.1.0.35, I think you need an upgrade.

I have aix 5.1 with ML2 installed on one of my server and topas command works .i don't think the problem is because of maintainence level.i searched for ur problem in my problem resolution database and the reason for topas command not to work might be one of the following:-
1:-When topas is run on a heavily CPU bound machine, other
Spmi consumers will not be able to display data.
Problem conclusion
Adjust the priority of topas to 58. Since topas uses very
little CPU this should not impact the overall system, just
insure that topas gets some CPU time.
my suggestion is go to url
and download fix IY33020 and IY19178 and install updates using command smitty update_by_fix.

i hope this resolves ur problem
