Hi,
I've created a report based upon an underlying query. This query outputs the top 5 records based upon descending date.
The query works fine, however the report outputs just 1 record, not the top 5 as I want. How do I fix this problem? Thanks for your help in anticipation!

Because your underlying query works just fine and displays the five rows for you I suspect that the report is flawed in its design as you probably have a Sorting and Group by selection that grouping the five records into one and your controls are displayed in the report in the Group Header or Footer.

Check this out and see if this is the case. If it is change your controls to the Detail Section. If not get back with more details about the report. Bob Scriver

Scriverb, you are a genius! I found that the report was sorting by descending date and I deleted that sorting order from the report.
However I still have a small formatting problem. Each set of records for a particular date is printing on a separate page. How do I make sure that all 5 records fit on a page?
Let me explain that better:

Present Report format (page 1)

Date 08/26/02
Shift 2
Crew P
Speed 290
.
.
.

Present Report format (page 2)

Date 08/15/02
Shift 1
Crew Q
Speed 300
.
.
.

Present Report format (page 3)

Date 08/07/02
Shift 3
Crew R
Speed 320
.
.
.

Desired Report Format

Date 08/26/02 08/15/02 08/07/02
Shift 2 1 3
Crew P Q R
Speed 290 300 320
.
.
.

Thanks a lot for your help. I appreciate it!

I would still look at the Sorting and Grouping. Have all the entries been deleted. If you have an entry there still is there a GroupHeader or GroupFooter indicated as one of the parameter options.

Also, check to see that your control fields are in the Detail Section of the report. If they happen to be in a footer or header then move them to the Detail Section.

If they are already in the Detail Section right click on the Detail Section horizontal bar and select properties. Have you selected something other than None in this parameter. A selection of anything but None would give you the results that you are experiencing.

Check this out and let me know. Bob Scriver

Scriverb,
I did everything you suggested
(1) All the controls are in the details section
(2) No entries are present under sorting and grouping
(3) The force new page option and new col or row option has been set to none

But the problem still persists! I know its hard to figure it out without looking at the database but do you have any more ideas? Thanks a bunch!

Scriverb,
I sorted out part of the formatting problem! I went to page setup and changed the number of columns displayed from 1 to 5 and it worked. But there is still the problem of the labels appearing for each set of records.
Since the labels are the same for all the records I only want them printed out for the first group of records.
I can put the labels under headers and it would probably work, but my problem is that my labels are oriented columnwise not in rows! How do I fix this problem?
