top for Solaris 8

Has anyone installed the "top" program on Solaris 8? I am having trouble compiling it and it seems as though top only works for Solaris versions up to 5 by the install program, but I have a hard time beleiving that.

You can use the "prstat" bundled command instead of top

top does work on Solaris 8. We use it in my office, but I did not install it so I'm not sure about the problems you are encountering. ~Sol

I am running top utility on My solaris 8 machine here..
Get the top utility from sunfreeware.com or gnu.org.. It works on Solaris..

Even I faced some difficulties in installation of top.As u all know the first step is to issue ./Configure and it will ask for a series of questions and next it will prompt us to enter "make install".I did that it giving a error as follows.
# make install

machine.c:51: sys/dir.h: No such file or directory
machine.c:54: sys/dk.h: No such file or directory
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `machine.o'

I got it to work. Use the download and install the latest beta version (mine was ver. 11) and it will compile. I was getting the same error message.

As Ken said, the best thing is to download the package from

http://www.sunfreeware.com.

Saves any compiling problems.
