I have custom buttons linked to macros in Word 2010. I've succeeded in utilizing my own icons, however... Does anyone know how to define the tool tip text that is displayed when you hover the cursor over the button?

I just tested to be sure, but all you have to do is give it a custom name.... so in the "Customize the Ribbon" section, on your button/command, select Rename, name it whatever you want, and the tool-tip will also show that name. Of course, it'll show the name underneath the button as well if there is space.

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:57

Thanx. Unfortunately, I already have the name defined. What I really need is verbiage to explain the button's usage. I was expecting that it would go in the CustomUI.xml file along with the icons, macro references, etc, but I haven't found it.

Well, unfortunately, it may just be a limitation of the ribbon, as its designed, not sure. The name field shows both the "name" AND the tooltip. Now, if you can simply set the custom button(s) to where they will not show the name in the ribbon, then you can place the tooltip in the name field, and be done with it.

Here's a link that might be of some help, but not sure. I think it's more of a general introduction to editing the related xml:

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:57

Can you show the xml for the button? What have you set the label as?

Cheers, Glenn.
