tool menu problem

Hi all. First-time user to Illustrator on the mac (OSx).

I've just installed the CS3 and trying to run illustrator. However there is no 'Tool' menu on the left-hand side of the screen. On the 'windows' drop-down menu it doesn't give a 'tools' option to add it!

Any suggestions on where it might be?

Weird. Either you have a glich, or you tabbed out of it?
Just in case, try pressing the tab key, if that doesn't work, press the "f" key. Each time you press "f" it changes the view mode. Maybe your tools are just hidden?
Though they should be showing up under windows. Have you tried patching/updating?

Ahhh.....found what it was. After installing I dragged the launch icon onto my desktop resulting in it losing its mapping to the tool bars etc. Restored it to its root folder and problem solved!
