Tool for automatically sending regular emails?

Is there a tool or function which can be used to schedule sending mail to a particular email address on a regular basis, e.g. every 30 minutes or so?

The reason for the query is that we have some users who are complaining about the unreliability of our mail system, and we would like to be able to send mail though to a mailbox at a regular frequency, to give some quantitative evidence that there is or isn't a problem.

Since we had a similar problem (we have to send mail regularly out of a database application without messaging capabilities) I can maybe offer a solution:
we wrote a little command line tool based on Simple Mapi, which takes recipient, subject and body as parameters and sends the mail from any client having MAPI installed.
In conjunction with the AT-programm of WinNT you should be able to adjust the program to your needs.

Thanks for that. I have also found an application that can do this and more, called Automate from Unisyn SOftware (

You can schedule it to send mail at specific intervals, etc.
