I just recently inherited an IP Office system at one of our sister agencies that I am now responsible for. The system was initially setup by a contractor and nobody in the office was around when it was installed. I have no passwords, no documentation, and am 1000 miles away. I have remote access to the PC with IP Office Manager installed on it. I was trying to fix some long standing problems that they have been dealing with, but cannot load the config because I don't have the password. The user that I have onsite who is my eyes and ears is very not technical. As far as I can tell from her explanations, the PC is hooked up to the PBX via a network cable. Since I have no documentation on how it was setup originally, I don't think wiping the config file is a viable option for me. I've done some research on resetting the Admin password, but I don't think I'm connected to the switch via DTE. Is that the only way that I can reset the admin password?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the default password to get in? Where is this office located?

If the default password is what I think it is, than yes, I have tried it. The office is located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

How do I find that out? Can I do it from IP Office Manager?

You may be best served by inviting your business partner out to site to reset the password and to give you some training. Pay da man.

Use system monitor unless of course you are a Tard then it IS the fault of the pbx.

Open up manager, and tell us what version number is displayed at the top of the title bar. This isn't a definite indication of the firmware the system is on, but it's a start.

Find out if the PC connected has previously logged into the IP Office; is yes, then check out the (default) Avaya Manager folder (Program Files)for cfg or bak files (auto .bak file every time a change was made using that PC).
Next open the Manager and use offline and select open file and select the most recent .cfg or .bak file from the Manager folder; this will open the system configuartion and show you the version and complete set-up. Hint: try security log in on IP Office controller; most installers don't bother to change log-in password. If you can access, then you can change passwords without blowing out the system cfg.

should be;

most inexperienced installers don't bother to change log-in password.

Depending on the software version you can install DeltaServer on the pc were manager is installed, connect deltaserver to ip office and it will retrieve a config from the ipo regardless the password.
Then you can check out the config.

looks like its on v4 software

you will need to log into the security settings and change the administrator password

most of the time people dont change the user and pass.

U = security
P = securitypwd

but as mentioned, this is really a job for a proper IPO engineer - otherwise, you could mess things up big time, then you will be re-typing the config!

Thanks for the help everyone! I was able to get in with the most ridiculous password ever!!

I have experience with Avaya phone switches (I support an S8500 Media Gateway in our main office) but have never touched an IP Office system. Are there any good docs or websites that you guys know of so I can start familiarizing myself with it? I'm on Avaya's website now trying to find some.

Thanks again!

Thanks, Tom! What's required to create an SSO login. I have multiple Avaya switches and gateways that are covered under Avaya Maintenance agreements, but not any IP Office systems.

click the link then click the link that says "sign up"
