An automated process is failing to open a text file on my NT 4 server. the file is not corrupted. i can open it fine from any other machine. when i copy and paste the file i get the following message:

"Cannot copy FILENAME: Too many files are currently in use. Quit one or more programs, and then try again."

It sounds like the system has reached its limit of file handles. is there a way to clear these out? Or does anybody have any other suggestions? I can't be rebooting this machine everytime this happens.

What number of Service Pack do you have ?

If you do not have the "SP6a", you may try to install it.

Other option would be that ther is another program who is using your Resources, check the Performance Monitor to validate this.

Good Luck !!!

Try opening the confignt file and setting FILES=100. I think the default is 20.
