Hello Everyone,
Newbie here... Just wondering what I should be looking to adjust. I have a dictation system with a (2500) line/phone programmed attached to it. When the callis hung up the pbx is not disconnected the call for quite along time (minutes). Hooking up a POTS line instead works just fine. I remember someone else having a similiar issue and remember there was something that could be done. Any idea's???

Nortel Option 61c

Thanks in advance,

How do you know the POTS line is working, how did you test it?

Usually it would be the dictation system that's causing the problem, because the caller is hanging up and not the dictation system. If you can make the dictation system hangup first then it would work.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Hello acewarlock,
I hooked up a POTS line I had in the same room to the Dictation system. IT answered then I immediately hang up and it disconnects the call immediately. Verfied on the Dictation system screen and can call the number back immediately and it will answer. Same test on a line through our pbx the line stays busy. I have been searching old posts and think I came across something:

Look at the RDB LD 15 check the FEDC and NEDC
- NEDC aaa Near End Disconnect Control (aaa = ORG or ETH)
- FEDC aaa Far End Disconnect Control (aaa = (ORG), ETH, JNT, or FEC) Try setting to ETH.

What do you think?

Thanks,
NortelOpt61

It might work but I doubt it will. This has been a problem with Nortel forever. it works with the trunks hooked to the dictation system because the trunk disconnects from the dictation system, but when it's connected to the PBX it comes in on a trunk and goes to a 500 set commected to basically a answering machine (dictation system) and when the caller hangs up the trunk is disconneted from the PBX but the dictation system doesn't hangup so the PBX holds the connection up. It's like an answering machine at home, the caller hangs up, but the answering machine keeps running for awhile before it hangs up. There is a special Analog card that can be used to correct this problem it is NT1R20 OPS Card. you can read the Spec at

might play with the route timers.. i usually try fdec/ndec eth.. and supervision no.. then make the flash timer a lot shorter.. that's usually the problem if it's external to internal.. internal to internal, look at time data... our dictation is the same, the disconect from them looks more like a hook flash then a rls.. so if flash is faster in the switch, you may see a larger sucess rate..

the problem should be fixed at the dictaphone level but i've never met anyone that knows that machine..

Hello John,
Just want to make sure since I am a newbie. Which flash timer should I adjust? I see the timers are set at 512, should I try 256? And for reference I am posting the RDB.

Thanks again.

Basicaly this is like someone calling into an analog phone and when the caller hangs up, if the analog phone isn't hungup as the dictation system is doing, the phone line is heldup until the dictation system finaly times out and hangs up. there is nothing to tell the dictation system to hangup like when it's connected to a TRUNK.

Thanks Ace,
If I understand everyone correctly then, basically I need to get some POTS lines and configure these off of them for it to work correctly?

Thanks,
Nortelopt61

Or get the NT1R20 which I posted above, I had to use then when I connected a BCM to an Option 11C because when they transfered a call back out the line wouldn't drop. I connected the BCM an the Option 11C using analog stations just like your doing.

Thanks again,
I guess I will be calling our supplier tomorrow.

Thanks,

acewarlock is right. A standard 16 port analog line card will not send disconnect supervision. No way, no how. You need the OPS card to provide open loop disconnect towards your dictation machine. Open loop disconnect means either a momentary open in the connection or battery reversal of the line. Either one accomplishes breaking the loop current to your dictation machine. When it senses loop current has dropped it hangs up. That is what the POTS line provides that the NT8D09 line card does not.
