Is there a way to generate a tone from a load in the PBX on a TN with no phone attached for the purpose of locating the TN with a tone tracker.

I have a TN going to a busy cross connect that isn't marked very well and I can't find the TN or even the frame side yet. I know the DMS 100s will do this so I thought maybe the PBX would as well. I have an OPT 61c...oops 1000M 3.0

Thanks

Put a toner on the jack your trying to trace and look for it at the TN block.

Can the PBX do this? That is my question, I realize that I can put a tone on at the xc but that won't work. In my case it will be easer to find it if the PBX can generate the tone.

you do not have a dial up loop back like a dms.. the one on the dms sounds so much like dialtone i never used it.. analogs are a little quicker to find.. take the time to mark the frame.. or have it done.. we have 8000 stations in 20 plus buildings with 100's of term's.. if we find anything that is not marked, we mark it on both ends... it does take a little longer but then so does what your going through...

two things that help me.. a digital set on my desk with auto answer.. it's just for techs, if management ever calls me on it, i change the number.. that station and all 5 digitals in the switchroom have a trace (trc) key... that gives me the called and calling tn on any call to the screen.

by using trace from every white/blue on a frame, you can get most of it labeled pretty quick.. older ipes may also use pair 17 for a tn ending in 0.. but they are getting rare.

analog station? , call the station the quickly short each pair.. when you short the called station, you answer the call.. old method called "raking the frame".. a quick short will make a quick pop for calls in progress but i've never gotten customer feedback from it.. it only takes a tenth of a second per pair...
