Tone and Pulse Dialing?

What exactly is Tone dialing or pulse dialing?

Tone dialing is, using combinations of tones to represent numbers. Each number pressed sends two tones at once, representing the row and column of the number.

697 1 2 3

770 4 5 6

and pulse dialing is just making pulses the amount of the number pressed.

pulse dialing was common until the 1970's, but has been largely replaced by tone dialing (keypad rather then rotating dial) I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Hi does anybody have sample code in any language for when I press any no. in the telephone keypad it will be detected or the no. that I pressed will appear in the program. Please help..
