my network is a Windows 2000 Mixed Mode AD. my currently exchange 2000 is a Win2k Server.
Recently i have another new server on Win2003 and i want to install/upgrade my exchange to 2003.

the trick is to move the mail store from 2000 to 2003 and with all the setting without to make major change to the user and my DNS.

My current Exchange has 2 Domainname (both for Public and Private)
abc.com and def.com. mails for these domain is channeled to the same server via the Public DNS Entry. and the server sends out mail with address based on the default SMTP address.

in-place upgrade is not really cool for this setup as i have a new physcial server. but the setting is my biggest worries...

can anyone advised on the best possible walkaround?

Your best bet is to set up the new Exchange server within the same Exchange Org and then do a mailbox move rather than trying to do an authoritative restore of the database.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Seems that that is the most stable and reliable answer i gotten.

I did exactly what you want to do about 18 months ago and all when very smoothly with a mailbox move. I scheduled the mailbox moves overnight and the users never even noticed :) Microsoft's documentation on deployment is very helpful.

Good luck with it

Hi HelpJayplz,
