To minimise download time for the site 1

I have designed two websites using Flash4.0 as part of my portfolio and i'm having some problems viewing them.Both the sites take too long to open.I tried using a preloader animation following the same steps as explained in the help file of the software but as a result only the preloader kept playing and did not move to the next frame of the movie,so i had to remove the preloader.I have couple of interviews later this week so , it will be very kind of you if you could tell me where i am going wrong so that i can rectify my mistake.The url's of the above mentioned sites are

Would it be possible for you to post the FLA. It is usualy easier to see problems looking at the source than just the SWF.

Second link doesn't show anything but network path was not found.
Third link is a Page cannot be displayed!

I had no problem with the first and third but the second link just sat there with a black screen. Maybe I should have waited longer but hey.....

site loads almost Immediately (I got a pink screen with loads of web addresses going up the screen - is that right...?)

site didn't load, well I didn't wait for it anyway.

site, as the first, loaded instantly.

You mentioned in your post that you had tried to use a pre-loader but couldn't get it to work correctly. That was the .fla that I asked you to post. I find it hard to visulise problems that other people have and find it easier to see the actual work file.

Do you have some web space...? If you have then you could put it there and then put the link here. You could e-mail it to me at work rod.allsopp@c-3.co.uk but if it's any bigger than 1.5meg, it won't get in. B-)

better rush this through if you've got an interview.

1. Have you got sounds within your movies, have you converted them to mp3 with compression?

2. are you using bmp/png files for images? If so, convert them to jpg and tinker with the compression to get an image which is good on quality but low on file size.

3. are you embedding fonts? If yes, try not to if you can get away with it, and if you do embed fonts, only embed the characters you need (ie: dont press [..] on the character panel).

4. this has been on the go since yesterday and the only person to mention file-size is Roda. WHAT ARE YOU'RE FILE SIZES? For all we know, your files could be 200K and the problem could be within a script.

had a look at origininfosys, I'll look at the others if you send me them, my connection is crap and I don't have the patience to wait for the others.

Anyway, you've done a good job for a newbie, nice and clean, and easy to navigate. I'd get rid of the looped scroll though, get's a bit annoying after a while.

As for a preloader, have you looked in the FAQ section?
