THANKS,JAQUAN!
I will try to check all parts of swatch, but my problem is another kind of:
-In the existing artwork I need some new pattern:
-open some swatches form Other Libraries, drag one onto clipboard, colorize it and:
-I CAN NOT save it in the swatches palette to use in artwork which needs it.
-even I make separate layer for this swatch creating and lock all other - I stil got same error message "can't define new pattern from selection. Can't also drag it into Swatches palette.
-from other hand - i can modify and save existing swatch in the New,BLANK document.
can you help me?
I will it appreciate it very much.

JAQUAN,

Contact me I just figured out how to do this for someone else. If your file is set up like theirs, I will show you what I did.

7582,
Im having trouble recreating your problem. I need a few more specifics about what your trying to do. If I understand correctly you have a work in progress in which you need to create a new pattern swatch (not a 'Style' but a 'Pattern Swatch'). You opened a sample pattern file that came with ai, dragged one onto the artboard, edited it, then when you tried to drag it back to the swatches you got an error.

What file are you opening to get the new swatch from? What swatch are you editing? What kind of edits are you doing? BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

Yes, you described exactly.
One more thing - the swatch I am editing in the existing art work doesn't go with AI.I dot from Windows-swatch Libraries-Other libraries - and open my own file, which contains downloaded patterns. They are .ai and when I bring them 9same way) into new document - I can edit and save them easily. When open them in the artwork with some colors set up and colorise this swatch with them - I can't save it in swatches palette to use in the artwork.

To my knowledge there is nothing that would prevent you from being able to drag artwork into your swatch pallete other than the things I meantioned in my first post. I still need you to be specific about how you are 'colorizing' the swatch. Does the art remain vector the entire time? Are you using a gradient, blend, or some other type of effect that are not designed to work as patterns? Dont be afraid of a complete sentence either :p BEHOLD!
