I received this in my daily weather report:
===============================
AccuWeather 7-Day Forecast
for SOUTH HILL
===============================

TODAY
Thundery rains this morning
H 67

Does this mean rain with thunder or heavy rains that sound like thunder?

Anyone else heard of a "new term" from a professional source?

Stackdump, you sum up Scotland quite well, it is wet here on the west coast fot something like 80% of the year. That said, it's generally fairly mild due in part to the Gulf Stream effect.

No wonder it's said (originally by Dr Johnson I think?) that it's never difficult to distinguish between a Scotsman and a ray of sunshine.

As it happens we had a beautiful summer last year, marred only by the famous midges which tend to appear in the late summer and kind of take the shine off things with their irritating ways.

I want to be good, is that not enough?

I did visit a place there on the East coast, sorry can't remember the name, but palm trees are growing! It's some weird geographical, gulf stream, thingy.

Ah yes, those midges, Scotland's national bird...

I once heard a weather forecast in Ireland "There may be drizzle between the showers."
So it could be dry, drizzly or showery.
The only way this forecast could be wrong is if it snowed!

In Ireland the weather is frequently described as 'Soft' as in "It's a soft day today". This means it is raining, but its not raining hard.

The question should be [red]Is it worth trying to do?[/red] not [blue] Can it be done?[/blue]

Thank God for Weather. It makes everything else possible. Just imagine a world without it.
