Hi all,

I'm using Oracle 8.1.7 and since we set a new instance with Java components (I don't really know whether that's the cause or not) the listener shows up on task manager as taking almost all of the server resources.
It's also placing a log file that I still haven't been able to see, it's a 1.7Gb log file.

I'm a 3rd party product manager, so as I only know a bit tiny on Oracle, I don't know where to start to look at.

Please I need some help on that,

Any clue ?

kind regards and many thanx in advance

Many thanx,

I'm trying with JR Split, give me some time.
I believe that there must be some others better than this one as I tried to make partitions of 10Mb and didn't succeed. I think that it only let's U make 1.38Mb parts.

Let's see !!! : )

thanx 4 Ur attention !!!!

ah, the beauty of java :

my money's on the java app isn't connection pooling and is connection/disconnection from Oracle for every request. I also had this happen w/a 3rd party app and that was (/still is; they won't fix their product) the issue.

if you don't know how to do it with sqlplus, bash or perl you probably shouldn't be doing it! :)

Einyel,

First, I see no benefit in leaving the listener.log file at such a large size. Ask your Oracle DBA to do what it takes to rename the file. As an example, if the log file is "listener.log", rename it to "listener.20030922.log", and start writing to a new, empty "listener.log" file.

Second, to look at the end of a gigantic file in Windows, I use a 18K freeware utility called "tail.exe" that behaves just like the Unix "tail". There are many versions downloadable from the internet (or I can forward you a copy if you provide a target).

Hi all,

Thank U all 4 Ur comments.

Regarding what DBAwhosaysNIE said, I finally forgot about running the 3rd party app with Oracle and I used SQL Server instead so I don't need the Oracle instance on which Java components are set ( I guessed this could be the cause but I couldn't assure it )

See a bit of the log file refered to Listener:
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=IISI.WORLD......and so on...)
This line repeats appr (5000/sec) for a while
TNS-12536: TNS: Operation would block
TNS-12536: TNS: Operation would block
......
This line did also repeat with the same frequency
TNS-01168: Cannot allocate memory
......
And then some other error codes:
TNS-12500: TNS: listener failed to start a dedicated server process
TNS-12560: TNS: protocol adapted error
TNS-00530: Protocol adapted error 32-bit Windows error: 1455: Unknown error

Just a question for all of U:
- As I'm running the 3rd party app on SQL Server I don't need the instance on which Java components are set on Oracle, would it be enough to delete the instance in order to solve this issue? or should I to uninstall Oracle and install it again without installing the Java components (of course taking into account back-ups import&export)?

What d'you think?

Many tahnx to all of U! : )

kind regards
