I have looked in the docs and I see that each announcement can support up to 1000 play requests

I see that you can assign 256 announcements to each TN2501, and that it has 31 play channels.

Does this mean that each channel can support 1000 play requests therefore 31 x 1000 = 31,000 simultaneous plays per board?

Or is it limited to a set number of connections per channel?

The x 1000 factor only comes into play when using barge in announcements like music or messaging on hold. This is where 1 person is listening to the announcement and a 2nd, 3rd, etc bridge in midway through the announcement. They will share 1 port x 1000. Most people don't use announcements this way so you end up with 31 palys per board. Or in the case of music, 1 port x 1000 for music and 30 ports x 1 left over for regular announcements.

thanks for the reply

so each TN2501 can only support 31 connections at any one time?

That seems very low to me

Im sure the old TN750 allowed more than 1 person to connect to each channel, and had a capacity of 400 calls per board

yes, the same thing. 400 could connect to 1 channel if listening to a barge in announcement. It had 16 play ports. 16 x 1 for announcements or 16 x 400 for barge-in announcements.

What they are really saying is that if you are using for music, it doenst matter if someone bridges on in the middle of it, where the 31 means the message starts from the beginning of the message..

Usually that is more than plenty.

If you have queuing for your announcements enabled and all ports are busy, the system will queue all requests for any particular announcement and once a port becomes available, plays the announcement to all calls waiting for that announcement at the same time. The longest waiting call determines which announcement is played on the next available port but all calls queuing for the same announcement will also get it
