I have a Definity SI R9 that has a chronic modem alarm. We have decided to replace the TN2404 to see if that will resolve the issue. I am not very familiar with licensing on pre-CM systems. What will need to be done prior to the processor swap? I plan to use a second PCMCIA card to get a backup of the translations. Do R9's still use license files? Thanks for any info.

R9 does not use a license file or the serial number on the tn2404

The software load on a tn2404 can be any load from r9 to r12. The only way to get a perfect match on your existing r9 software is to know the exact load and order a processor with that exact load or higher r9. If you load on a replacement that has r10, r11, r12 on it, you will need a license file or an orange flash card to erase the board and reprogram it with the correct load.

This command will help you after a reboot with the replacement card. It will tell you what load is burned to it.

Command: display capacity

Code:
display capacity Page 10 of 10 SPE B
                                SYSTEM CAPACITY

Thanks for the info. I am planning on replacing a 05.1.122.4 load with the exact same load processor. So it should be just a board swap?
