I have a file server running W2003. Users are running word docs directly off the server but when they close the files the tmp files do not clear. they are the same size as the original file (some are very big--50mb) so they are using tons of space. any way to have them auto-clear when the file is closed?

Do the users have delete permissions on the share? they may have change but not delete.

They have read/execute, list and read on the share and full control on a folder in the share (where their docs are).
do they need full control on the whole share?

They will need change permissions at least on the share.

The Share permissions and the folder (NTFS) permissions combine and the most restrictive permissions apply, so if you allow Read/Execute on the share but full control NTFS permissions then the overall permissions will be Read/Execute.

I changed user access to full control and still having the problem. any other possibilities?
