Hi folks. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to carry out an update of one of our servers (fortunately, only a test box at this stage). The update is from 5.2.0.1 to 5.2.0.8 and I downloaded what appear to be the correct filesets, did an inutoc and smitty update_all. In the latter I answered yes to 'Accept all new licence agreements', but still get a failure of the update due to:

The installation cannot proceed because the following filesets require software license agreement files which could not be found on the system or installation media:

Java14.sdk

I have checked and the license file (or what appears to be the license file) is in place, and as mentioned, I have answered yes to accept any and all licence agreements.

Is this a known problem, or am I just being particularly thick? Any assistance gratefully received.

You should be able to go straight from .1 to .8 but this is not always the case. I'd try .1 to .3 then .3 to .8

Thanks Mike, I'm currently downloading a 'tailored' version (using info. from lslpp -Lc), so I'll let you know how (or if) that goes. Otherwise I'll try the incremental route and see if that works. Regards.

Well curiouser and curiouser. Using the tailored version of the 5.2.0.0.1 -> 5.2.0.0.8 upgrade actually left the system as 5.2.0.0.2, or at least that's what it thinks it is.

What I did find odd was that the smitty upgrade_all completed OK, but informed me at the end that the thing had been run in preview mode only, despite the fact that option was set to no on the smitty update_all screen. When I ran the command using that revealed by F10 in smitty, but excluding the -pE option (which I assume is for preview, not sure what the appended E is for however), it seemed to complete OK and I rebooted. oslevel -s after rebooting showed 5200-02-00.

Ho hum. I used to think that Solaris patching was a hit and miss affair, but it was a walk in the park compared to this!

Hey Ken:

Just that I understand this, you tried to go from ML1 to TL8, and Java SDK was giving you problems while doing the 'smitty update_all' ?

The taylored version is, when you select '01' and you would like to goto '08'?

So your upgrade went well?

Hi Mag0007. SDK appeared to be causing the problems and the tailored version only managed to upgrade to 02, when I had selected to go to 08 from the IBM site. The tailored version was created on the IBM site by giving them a link to the output of lslpp -Lc from the machine in question (as requested on their site). So, all in all, a most unsatisfactory experience.
