I'm very new to Tivoli so please forgive my ignorance
regarding this software....but here's my dilemma:
I am attempting to restore a Tivoli backupset that is
a (AIX 5.2) unix clients backup that was created on a
Windows Tivoli server using a tape library (LTO tape drive)
AIX server is the client & Windows 2000 is the server.
I have Tivoli server & client installed/initialized on a Windows 2003 server in which i am using a manual tape library (LTO tape drive) to restore the backupset from.
My dilemma is that when using the GUI Client restore function is that the backupset does show its name but
none of the files or directories appear underneath.
Is there something i am not doing to get these files/directories to appear? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,

If you want to restore a backupset, you should plug in a standalone tape drive on the client and then follow the TSM Admin guide on restoring a backupset. It will include adding a line to the dsm.opt on the client that forces it to only look at backupsets for restore.

I am trying to restore this backupset from a remote customer(AIX client) to a Windows server.
The remote client used a Windows Tivoli server to back it up. I have Tivoli server & client loaded on this Windows server with the same type of tape drive this remote customer has. Can this be done since the files are unix but I want to select them to restore to a Windows server?
I have tried this from the command line & GUI but nothing restores...0 bytes....no errors just says its completed but files do not restore.
thanks,

If it's a backup of a unix server, you cannot restore those files to a Windows server.

Make sure that the TSM Client version is not lower than the Client version where the backup was made. If client version was 5.0 when backup was done and the client is a 4.9 where you are doing the restore you may experience this problem.
