Tired of typing SET this SET that.....

Hello All,
Using DBIII+, and everyday when I start the program I have to type SET CENTURY ON, and other trival commands that set the printer up to get it ready to print. Also when I get bored of looking at a B&W screen, I go into the SET area, and change the colors. I wanted to know if there is a way to automatically have DBase do this when I start the program?

You should be able to write those commands into a text file named CONFIG.DB and place that in your dBase program directory. Likely there's already one there, so just edit it with a text editor and add or edit the commands for which you want to set your own defaults.

You can do a lot of other things with config.db like setting function key commands, screen color, etc. Almost any SET command can be placed in config.db.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Thank you for the CONFIG.DB file. How would I type the colors into the config.db file? when I go into SET. I select the colors from a list.

The 'SET' color format is <standard text>,<enhanced>,<border> and takes 2 color codes for each parameter - foreground/background,foreground/background,foreground/background.

Use the following codes:

Black = N Magenta = RB
Blue = B Brown = GR
Green = G White = W
Cyan = BG Red = R

To make a color &quot;High Intensity&quot;, follow the above codes with '+'. To make a color blink, follow the above codes with '*'.

An example: to set a screen color with magenta text on a black background, enhanced text in green on a black background your 'SET' command would be 'SET COLOR TO RB/N,G/N'. Each option above need not be specified. You may want to use the default enhanced color but change the standard text color - SET COLOR TO W+/G. To change just the enhanced text, SET COLOR TO ,G+/N.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
