Hi

I was hoping someone would be able to give me some advice on the following problem I am getting when trying to run a report via crystal enterprise. It is not a very big report but it does take over 5 minutes to run. When I run it, after about 5 minutes I get the following error reported and the report is abandoned:

Timout Waiting for Crystal PageServer to Respond

I am using Crystal Enterprise 9 (version 9.0.0.287). I have searched the Crystal Decisions knowledge base and found no reference of this error. I have also installed servie pack 1.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
In the CMC, so can set the 'time before an idle job is closed' , try it at 20 minutes...
For long reports ( that is, those that take a long time to return the first page of data), 5 minutes is too short.

Thanks

I should have mentioned that I have already modified the 'time before an idle job is closed' to the maximum time available on the PageServer and this made no difference at all, the error still occurs.

Hi, That message may be coming from the input or output servers as well, so check their timeouts..

( If in Windows, the Event Viewer may show more about the error - like its source..)

Thanks again

I have already changed the timeouts on the input and output servers to no avail.

I had a look in the Events Viewer and when I run the report it is creating Warning entries in the Events Viewer for the Crystal WebComponent Server with the following message:

'The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.Script timeout.'

Any ideas anyone??

Thanks

Hi,
That is an IIS setting, but, you may want to find out why it is taking so long to execute just to be sure no bad loops are involved..
If the script ( the csp pages and any asp/jajascript involved) is OK, then use the IIS Help function to look at the ScriptTimeout setting...

Actually your timeout is likley realted to the Web Connector and WCS

I have an FAQ in this forum (see Performance) with a workaround, but it requires a quick registry change to lengthen the time the WC and WCS will wait.

This is an issue when a report is running against a stored proc that takes longer than 5 minutes to process. With procs, the proc must run to completion before getting an incomplete page1 back to the browser. If this takes longer than 5 minutes you get a timeout.

I suspect the Error Code in your Event viewer is Code 7. (see last sentence of the error)

Thanks for all your suggestions.

The report that I am running is not based on a stored procedure but a simple query built in Crystal Reports 9.0. Even so, I did try some of your suggestions again to no avail! I think I might have to contact Crystal decisions with this one!

Did you check your IIS's ScriptTimeout setting and increase it as needed?

It may not be Crystal at all..
