I'd be curious to know what the devil you did to lock a user out of their data during a process that shouldn't interrupt the user, and it's sounding like it's still interrupting the user (or trying to).

I don't have a clue to be honest.
The table is not set to exclusive, 2 other machines on the network can access the data without causing any problems at all, it is just the backup and upload process which halts proceedings.
It doesn't really cause a problem as the upload usually goes ahead without anyone noticing.
