i am experiencing disconnection when i tried "TELNET" to our office server using Internet access from home and not doing anythin for a couple of minutes. re dial up connection - im still connected.

is there a parameter where i can setup the time-to-live if im not doing anything so that i'll not get disconnected?

thanks.

I'm not sure if this is what you want, but try issuing the command:

echo $TMOUT

and see whether this variable is set to any value. On our systems it is set to 0 (zero), ie indefinite. If your TMOUT setting is set to a value in /etc/profile or .profile, try changing it to 0. Hope this helps.

thanks ken,

i sealed it out to TMOUT=0, but i have to deal with our network system - specifically our firewall that closes idle connection within 5-10 minutes.

you could always run a 'ping', in the background, back to your pc.... that would keep it open Mike
