On some laptops, the battery indicator tells the percentage remaining as well as how many hours/minutes the battery is expected to last. On others, it only displays the percentage.

Everything is XP SP3.

How do I get it to display the hours/minutes as well on those that only display the percentage?

Often the manufactuers have battery meter software. You may need to install this.

Most people spend their time on the "urgent" rather than on the "important."

Thanks for the links - most of them were of the format

"It shows up on mine so what's your problem"

or

"It doesn't work on mine either"

There are a few shareware things that apparently show it.

Basically it is a Dell laptop (PIII). It only runs at one speed so all the arguments about variable speed computations being incorrect don't apply. The battery lasts about 90minutes which isn't too bad for a machine of that age. I've been to the dell website but I can't find any info on showing time remaining instead of just percentage.

Does the Dell have a battery calibration utility? These often have the drivers as well.

Stu..

Guess what: I switched it on this morning and lo and behold, it tells me the time remaining as well as the percentage.

I don't understand this - that is exactly what I want and I've been trying to activate it for the last 8 months. Now without doing anything, it magically appears.

I've got it now and I'm not even going to try to understand how it got there.

Thanks everyone.

Obviously, one only just needs to post a problem at Tek-Tips to get it solved magically.

Kind of looks that way. Tell someone and it solves itself automatically: just to prove you wrong.
