Hi All,

We performed some server room maintenance this past weekend and had our phone system unplugged for ~20 minutes. Now the clocks on our phones are ~20 minutes incorrect.

The server time is correct via SNTP.

Is there anyway to refresh the time on all devices without having to tell users to unplug/plug their phones in?

Thanks!

We are using the 3101 Basic phones, can anyone tell me if the phones are supposed to update the time automatically when the time on the server changes?

Thanks

only release 6 support automatic update time via ntp server , you have release 6 ?? if you have minor release is possible update time via external 3com software nbxbackup...

hi

Yes time is correct, via SNTP.

The weird thing is that if a user unplugs/plugs their phone, the time updates and is correct. But... after about 10 minutes, the phone time starts to go incorrect again by a minute, and then two minutes, then three minutes.... and so on...

In one day, the phone will be off by as much as 20 minutes but we had another user whose phone was off by 2 hours and 10 minutes.

So the incorrect times on the phones aren't consistent which is really odd to me.

Turn off sntp and just set the time on the nbx for a day or two and see what happens. If it keeps happening then it is NBX related. I have never seen this happen but I am sure there is some sort of clock controller chip.

I would say this is definately multicast related. Basically every 30 seconds or so, the NBX sends out a multicast packet to 224.x.x.x (forgot specific address for time/system state). The phone should be advertising that it is a member of that multicast group, but to me it seems like your switch port doesnt know that your phone is joined in that multicast group. I would try your phone and a pc into a cheap dumb hub. run wireshark and see if you can see multicast packets coming through to the phone.
