Time loss

I am slowly lossing time on my Novell server 4.x. Its at -10 min. Its effects all clients that log on as well.

Is there a permantent fix?

 
Is this Server the only NetWare server in your environment, or are there others?

What kind of Server is it? Compaq, IBM, Dell, etc...?
 
What SP are you running? Also, what version of TIMESYNC.NLM are you on? Have you considered using an external time source as a reference? -----------------------------------------------------

Take a look at:

Monitor - Server parameters - Time.

There are several options there related to Time.

You should verify that the server is "Single" if it is the only NW server in your network.

There is an option there to use the hardware clock. I'm not sure but I think it should be enabled. Anyway you can try modifying the current status of this option.

If you only have one server in the tree, the install should have configured it as a "Single" time server. You should down the server and check time in DOS. If time is wrong or "drifting" on the machine itself, you need to fix that. Use DOS commands to correct the time, and then bring the server back up. Unless you have configured "time sources," time will always come from that one server. You could use the "set time" command at the console to periodically correct the drift, but Novell does not recommend this because it is very easy to make a mistake that can have catastrophic results with regard to future time on your network.

You should go to Novell's website .support.novell.com and search the knowledgebase articles on "time." There are lots of options including using an external time source.
