Hi to all! We are trying to hook up a Nortel 11C Mini E1 to a non-Nortel switch (MD110) using tie trunks. The switches are co-located. Here's what we're getting:
From the Nortel, we pull far end dial tone by dialing the ACOD, but get immediate error tone on any subsequent valid dialed digit.
From the MD11o,we pick a channel on the E1 and on dialling digits, it times out.there are no alarms at either end
In LD16, we have changed param DSEL to VCE (Voice Only) to allow dialing in to each switch.Pls what can be the problem.

Thanks

What kind of signaling are you using between the switches?
Think it needs to be QSIG on both ends to work right.

To get most functions to work you should use QSIG.
But its is not so easy to set up.
(you have a range of parameters in Meridian wich has to correspond to what the MD110 can handle)

We have a customer who has a Meridian op61 and an MD110 tied together using DPNSS. It works fine but is a little bit difficult to trace and administrate.
But we have made atempts to use QSIG, that is to be able to use a mailbox wich is tied to the MD110 via QSIG also.

MD110 does not accept calls comming in to the switch on DPNSS to be transported out through QSIG.
It can not convert the call from DPNSS on one link to QSIG on another.

If you have 2 QSIG routes they also has to be the same type of QSIG routes.

MD can have a QSIG route with or without something called network services.

So if a call comes in into the MD110 on a route with network services, it canot be redirected out on another QSIG route without network services activated.

With all this I just want to say that the MD110 is not so easy to work with.
You have to be aware of what kind of traffic scenarios you could cause.

We do not have such a setup M1-MD110, but both Nortel and Ericsson tech-suport recommends that we use QSIG if we should set up i TIE between the switches.
They say it gives the best functionality on the link.

Thanks for the information all. We will try to use QSIG.

Thanks.

To use QSIG ,pls do you have the configuration for both ends?

i would back up one step, what kind of tie trunks? ana, pri t1? if they are analog then your chasing the wronge rabbit. i would make sure first that i can dial out on that route using the acod, the fastest way to do this is to loop it back to the opt 11 itself, when you dial an acod you'll get your own dialtone back then you can dial an extension, a little harder with a t1 pri but not all that, if you have the hardware. i have never needed qsig for ties, unless i wanted to use rcap entries
