A long time ago, I thought I saw something indicating what TIE stands for, as if it were an acronym. Lately, for the life of me, I can't find anything about it.

Anyone know if tie is a word or if TIE is an acronym?

I believe it is a word. I found these on Google.

"A telephone line that directly connects two private branch exchanges (PBXs).
"

"tie line definition
n.
1. A communications link between extensions of a private telephone system.
2. A connection between systems, such as electrical power or communications systems."

never heard it used as anything except a noun. back in the analog world we called lines between pbx's tie lines.. that was prior to needing software.. it was the same trunk, usually eam (ear and mouth) style 4 wire.. the only diff in those and trunks was the trunk was back to the co (central office)
