I have some users complaining that they hear a ticking noise on the calls. These calls come into the switch over several T's and different trunk groups. I have heard the ticking myself and it sounds “electrical”?? Could this be a network issue and where should I start looking

I would set up a trunk ID button on my phone and see if I could narrow this down to a particular span. If you can capture the trunk group and member then you can start to resolve this.

Next I would busy that span or T-1 and see if that resolves the problem. Have your provider check it out for you.

We experienced this same ticking problem last week. Started on Wednesday. It was only occuring on calls (inbound and outbound) via our MCI long distant circuits. Called MCI and they tested all four circuits early Friday morning. They reported back finding no problems. But, have not had a problem with the ticking noise since MCI checked the circuits.

It's a BOMB! Get out of the building!

Seriously though, since it's a T1, it would have to be an issue with a circuit, it's not like analog line with induced noise. Just to make sure it's not hardware, if you isolate it to a particular T1, you could always swap DS1 boards (as long as they match up, TN767E to TN767E, TN464F to TN464F, etc.) and see if the problem follows the hardware.

Check the synchronization in the switch (status sync). You should be clocking from a dependable source. Try changing it to a different vendor if possible (change sync).
