If you just want to make the images smaller then just resize them - or if you want to get people thinking "what the hell is going on in that picture" you can just crop a section out of the full image. Save the images as whatever file format you need to then import to SwishMax.

I know in CS there is an automated process that will resize the images for you and even create a basic collection of web pages and save to a location of your choice.
Not got it in front of me atm but if you look in File it is near the bottom somewhere.
Cou can also get it to create contact sheest for you if this would fit your design better than having to handel lots of images.
