Thoughts options on 3com NBX 100 1

I currently work for a small real Estate company, we have 5 branch locations. We are getting ready to install a 3com NBX 100, I wanted to get peoples thoughts or options on this system. I feel it will meet our needs and allow us to grow into combining offices using mutiple nbx100's. What do people here think or know about them?

Great units for your stated purpose. Don't like the single feed/service sets. I think that part of the 3Com is bunk. They work well but are too expensive. They also remove fail safe redundancy. With the 3Com you can use Norstar telephone sets and reduce costs and leave many options avail.

Forgot to mention Nortel's BCM does much the same thing as 3Com.

The NBX is a good system but is limited to H.323 feature sets. As the features expand you may require upgrades to take advantage of these new features.
Last year I believe 16 new features were introduced to the H.323 standards and only the new NBX software accomodated the new features.
Traditional TDM switches with 200 plus features that have IP capability will be less expensive over the long haul.
As mentioned, it is a good system but the engineers are not telephony oriented, such as earlier releases forgetting Music on Hold, External Paging outputs, things that ring, etc. They just don't have the mind set for traditional telephony. Jerry Pannell

What is the h.323 feature set? What are Traditional TDM switches?

H.323 is the protocol used for IP Telephony and Voice/Data/Video conferencing,etc. The feature set only means the current supported features under this protocol. H.323 is also usually responsible for call handling and call control of most IP switches for voice.

TDM is short for Time Division Multiplexing which is the switch matrix, blocking or non blocking, for most PBX and key systems.

All I meant was, before settling on multi-site sytems(5 sites) make sure the system has all the features your company requires for inter and intra office communications.
Traditional PBX and Key System manufacturers have more years R&D invested in their products for multi site, call center and centralized services than most IP only based systems.
If the NBX fits your current and future needs, it may be the system for you. My primary problem with the system is the cost of desktop instruments and the industry standards dictate what features are available.

Good question.I'm in the same situation: I work for a small medical company - 95 users. We are looking to replace our existing phone system.Thinkig of getting IP Office 412?! Is it good as I heard around the net? Is anyone have this system deployed and what you think of it? I'll appreciate any opinions.
