I've read the FAQ on this already, but I was wondering if anyone had any additional thoughts on this. Are there any gotchas to either setup? Any good success or horror stories to share?

Thank you in advance for the feedback. Hopefully this might help others here as well.

as long as you are using an ATA2 you should have no problem because you can do most of the feature as with the phones.

The only real difference is the ability to have line appearances on the norstar phone.

I've also noticed that the T-series corless phones have shorter range

If you have caller ID, it will only work on the Nortel phone. We use a T7406 for answering outside calls, and our admin assistants look at the caller ID every time. We've been reasonably happy with it since I moved the base out of the phone room and to the middle of the office on top of a file cabinet (before that reception was spotty).

But for extended conversations or for someone who roams about (rather than central answering), I'd probably lean toward a consumer cordless.

After hearing years of complaints about Nortel cordless sets being too fragile and way too expensive (not to mention their pitiful warranties), I have to recommend ATAs' and Panasonic cordless sets. They hold up well, offer the basic features you really need and they cost a lot less to buy and replace. True, no caller ID or multi line appearances (unless you use multiple ATAs) but most Norstar features will work if you use the correct access codes. I've converted a number of customers over the years from Nortel cordless to the ATA/Panasonic combo and they all love it. This subject was also covered here not long ago in great detail as I recall. A search might be worth while.

The T7406 range is small. I often hang it upside down with the antenna poking down through the drop ceiling. This lets me get the base station in a central place for good coverage in an aesthetic way. If an old bent wire coathanger is taped to the base station antenna you will extend the range on the T7406 by about 25percent.

For limmited office areas why not try an old companion 3060 with one base station? Wouldn't be too expensive and the range would be quite a bit better than the T7406. Parts are still quite available.

Cheers
