Actually, advise is the verb and advice is the noun. So, I hope what I just gave you was good advice during your time here in Making an Impression, where we love the language and we love to keep one another on the linguistic "straight and narrow".

Another example, Santa's last post had at least four misspellings:

[tab]Root Beer
is actually just spelled b-e-er
[tab]Ginger Ale
is actually just spelled a-l-e
[tab]Martinelli's Sparkling Cider
is actually spelled c-h-a-m-p-a-g-n-e
[tab]Vanilla Caffeine-free Diet Coke

I dunno...Those nice LDS folk, of which I know Santa to be one, are pretty specific about the spelling of the words for things that explicitly exclude alcohol and caffeine.

It just goes to show that spelling is the root of the beer problem, and the ale issue is treated gingerly.

This off-in-the-weeds digression reminds me of my kid many years ago, who, following a lesson at Church about things we should avoid to keep our bodies healthy, came home from Church, proceeded to the refrigerator, and dumped a bottle of Tabasco sauce in the garbage.

I asked her what was up and she says, "Today in church we learned that we should not use alcohol, coffee, tea, or Tabasco."

Ahhh, kids!

==> or Tabasco
Not use Tabasco!??!!?!??
Well, I guess that does explain a few things.

Wow. The nearest LDS church to me is about four blocks away and I can't imagine that mistake being made by a kid there.

Of course, that church building and my house are in south Louisiana, where Tobasco is a food group. And Avery Island (where all the Tobasco hot sauce in the world is made) is less than 25 miles away.

Tobasco = Red peppered snuff.

Perhaps a new chewing cessation aid?[rofl]

I don't know if you would call that addictive product a food group but the results of using it parallel the results of using tobacco products.

People start off just saying hello, then a quick grammar lesson , a few puns and a discussion of Tabasco.

I like the Tabasco green but won't buy the red anymore. Either Crystal or Louisiana are better for that type of pepper sauce, and I'll also have a Mexican like Tapatio and some Oriental chili paste in the fridge ( there is no spray cheese in my fridge despite what I may have said in another post)

I like Tobasco, but prefer Texas Pete. It's very, very, very similar but much cheaper and made in my own North Carolina. At any given time, I'll have 10 - 20 hot sauces in the fridge and/or pantry.

The old standby Tobasco red pepper sauce is not my favorite of the McIlhenny products. Two that stand out in my mind are the Tobasco Habanero (link) and Tobasco Soy Sauce (link). The habanero sauce really doesn't seem all that hot to me, but it has a wonderful smoky flavor. And to my mind nothing is better on sushi than Tobasco soy sauce.

I prefer the Tabasco Chipotle. Not as hot but with a nice smoky flavor. I didn't know they made soy sauce, too.

Now how did we get into this discussion??????

I'll have to look for the habanero and soy sauces - I haven't seen those before.

2ffat: Yeah, they're chipotle is pretty nice. If you haven't tried it, and can find it, try buffalo chipotle sauce. Not very hot at all, but a really nice flavor.

I think I'll fire up the grill this evening.
