I get this message after installing a Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO in my MB, and installing an operating system on a new HD. I go into device manager, and see a yellow circle with ~!~ inside it on the Radeon DDR:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I go into event viewer and I get this message:

I added the underline.
atim2tag has the same name as the .inf file I used to install the drivers. I have the latest drivers from the website, and the latest beta drivers. All the versions of the drivers give the same problem. They all have the error code 10.
All the bios settings agree with ATI's reccommended for this card.
About the buffer settins, is there a way to increase them? And what buffer is it talking about?

Which OS did you install?

Also, check the AGP aperture size in BIOS, I think that has been know to cause problems if set too small (not sure though).

Failing that, try installing it as a stabdard VGA device first, letting Windoze configure the rest of your hardware (if necessary) the first time you boot, then remove the vga adapter, reboot and redetect. Sometimes Windoze gets a little confused if it tries to install too many things at once (or something like that).

Could be the frame buffer, I assume you are using Win2k since you mention the event viewer. Do you have Service Pack 2 and DirectX 8 installed?

Sutek: I have tried that also, uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, installing as a reg VGA....ect. and yes, the bios apeture is set to 64mb.

paulwood: I'm using win2k (a free release, that had a limited time on it.) I have DirectX 8 installed, but not service pack 2. I will down load it and get back here. I thought the service pack was 100mb though! I'm only on a 28K connection. :(.... anyway, I'll do the service pack thing.

It could be the Frame buffer.

P.S. THank you for your replys. PPL usally tend to shy away from code 10 errors. :)

Ok. I downloaded SP2 off of microsofts site. a 101mb file. I get an error when Itry to run it "This program will not run with this version of windows" or something like that. I'm using a TRAIL version of windows, one that HAD a time expiration on it.

Next question: Does anybody know how to fool a program into installing anyway? nomatter what version of windows 2000?
