Hi guys

since some weeks we try to print barcodes with a thermotransfer printer which is connected to our as400/720
via a HP jet direct 300 print box.

The connection works, e.g we can sent a file via ftp to the printer and its printing but a normal spool job doesn't
make anything when we send it ( no special character printing, no form feed - nothing!!).

We tried it with a lot of drivers and configurations but not one beep!!!

We have a lexmark laser printer on a print box and this one works fine when we connect it via the jet direct box, but the thermo printers make nothing at all.

Does anybody here have experience with thermotransfer printers over TCP/IP print server??

Every help would be great because we and the printer companies (3 companies tried but no success) don't find a way!

Regards
Peter

I have thermal printers (Epson TMT-II) running off of our AS/400 in a slightly different configuration. We are using a Remote Printe utility on a PC with the printers hooked directly up to the computer.

I have also have other printers talking to Jetdirect 300 box using remote outq, with very good success rate.

Hi CZAstro,

would it be possible for you to sent me some printscreens of these devicedescriptions (wrkdevd prtxx), so perhaps it will work for us too!

(my email: p.miller@brocom.de)

Many thanks in advance, regards
Peter

Peter,
I have copied an outq definition that I use for one of our printers here. It is hooked up to port 2 of a 3 port jetdirect box (raw2). The printer is an IBM 2381, but the configuration should be similar for what you need.

I use crtoutq and prompt for the required fields. Hopefully this helps.

Regards
Guy

Hi CZAstro,

thanks very much.
Yesterday my partner found the solution:

it work with HPIIISI - Driver (and only with this!!)

Perhaps this informazion is helpfull to some others.
We only change this option and then everything works fine!

Best regards,
Peter
