I am getting this warning "There is no media in the storage device" with a code of "a00084ce HEX" when I look at the back up it looks complete, I am running a win2k server with an hp storageworks 36/72 DDS5 external. Our largest back up is a SQL database at about 30 gigs, about 8 gigs of other info.

I have sat and watched this back up for all 3 hours and it will get within a few %'s of finishing and then fail with the above message. My back up is complete, I just want that darn error of my job so I can sleep at night.
Thanks,
Paul

Are there any other alerts? It looks like your tape is full and a second tape is needed.

What is the total GB of everything you are backing up? Are you allowing overwrite or only append?

Bill,

No other alerts, we are backing up about 37 gigs of data, it is set to overwrite, I made a much smaller job today, and it completed, I just can't believe my compression is only giving me 37 gigs with a possible 72?

Paul

That happens. It's only an estimate and is rarely ever reached (however, I have been able to do 416 GB to a 100/200 GB tape - go figure).

BTW- in Backup Exec, do you have USE HARDWARE COMPRESSION or USE SOFTWARE COMPRESSION?

-SQLBill

Bill,

I have installed the Vweritas driver, tried hardware compression, then went to software. It is still on software, same problem last night. I went thru my report, and it says everything was backed up on the individual servers, but the verify on each says "unable to find media".

Also as I stated the majority of the back up is a SQL database, I have noticed I am getting fairly slow speeds (160 gigs) when the other servers are close to 300 gigs a minute. I am considering moving the external back up drive off the Main server to the SQL server...any thoughts?

I'm glad the weekends here!!

Are you doing successfull backups of other servers using this Backup Exec server?

Are you using the SQL Server Agent?
