For the most part, I avoid variants... I follow the maxim that if you know what the data type should be, use it - it's there for a reason!

The vast majority of my work is concerned with strings, integers, longs, booleans and user defined objects...

Ah - objects... Seemed like such pretentious tom-foolery at the time, but now I have seen the light...
