We are running Backup Exec 8.6 on w2k server. Whenever we back up a remote w2k server's system State, we get the following error and the backup stops. Any suggestions?

Unable to open the item \_SharedHardlinkData_\0.0.0 - skipped.
An error occurred retrieving System State files.

The System State file could not be backed up.

Thnak you for the help. Forgot to mention, we are running v8.6 build 3878. The hotfix 10 BEDSNT5.DLL and BENGINE.EXE are older than our current version. However, the remote agent's BEDSNT5.DLL is 5-23-01 and hotfix 10 is 8-2-2001. For the test, I replced remote agent's BEDSNT5.DLL with BEDSNT5.DLL dated 8-2-2001. I still get the same error.

Also, all 5 remote servers have the same agent software and only one remote server has this problem. Any more suggestions?

I'd remove the agent - reboot and re-install it on the computer in question.

Create a manual job to test the ss backup only, if its a member server check the local security policy - make a user with same name and password as the backup exec service account.

Otherwise you'd have to start looking into whats unique about that system.
