I want to make sure that I have the Reporting services environment correctly installed. I have no background in SSRS or SQL Server for that matter. I wrote many Crystal Reports that now have to be converted.

It is not too difficult to get an RDL converted file from Crystal but the question is then, what do I do with this?

What sort of servers do I need setup? Where do I put this RDL?

My only experience is playing with the SSRS Project in VS 2005 and trying to add the RDL file.

I guess my question is how do you deploy the Report you created.

You upload it into the report server. On Crystal it would be like deploying it to Crystal Enterprise. Once you set up the server, you login to it (amke sure you have admin rights to it), and create folders and upload/create reports.

OK thanks that makes sense, just one thing, what is this "it" that I upload? I mean that I created a project does the entire project get uploaded?

and how does it get uploaded?

No. Just the .rdl file gets uploaded.

Under the browser-based server screen (the title should read "SQL Server Reporting Services
Home"), there is a button labeled "upload file."

My suggestion would be to add the RDL you have created to a project so you can debug it first. Almost all "conversions" I've ever done in development work require at least a little tweaking before they are ready for production. You can also deploy just a single report (as opposed to the entire project) from your VS project to the report server.

How do you deploy the RDL to the report server?

You can do it through the web-based interface as well (that's how I like to do it at least). It will be at something like:
name>:<port #>/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx

I am having trouble deploying an RDL that was created.

I really need to be able to speak to someone on the phone in real time and see about ironing this thing out. I am able to pay for someone's time for this. I think I have a basic understanding of this after less than a week but I could use some experienced guidance in movin this along.

If you have any ideas for me to contact someone please let me know.

I am not sure if this is an appropriate type of post so I apologize if this is not acceptable, it doesn't say either way.

Why not try Microsoft?

Good luck!
