On a certain NT4 Workstation PC. I'm having a problem with admin default shares disappearing. The default C$, D$, admin$ etc. become unshared whenever the PC is logged out of NT after logging in as an admin and setting the shares manually. They all were working fine until a couple of weeks ago.

Please help

Is the Server Service running?
I believe its that service's job to create shares, including the default ones. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

yes. This is not happening to all wrksnt only a few.

You don't have a group policy (local or global) that is turning them off by any chance? [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

try mapping through DOS, at the command prompt type:

net use d: \\computername\c$ /persistent:yes

that might do the trick, once it is mapped though dos you can close the dos prompt and access the drive through windows.

if you need to enter a username and password then it should look like this:

net use x: \\computername\c$ /user:username password /persistent:yes

NT seems to have some problems sometimes remembering some connections through windows - mapping through dos normally fixes it.

If policy is running on server open go to default computer and select default shares on server and workstaion. Njoy!
