I need to be able to use Access 97 and export to an Excel 97 spreadsheet, but the Excel options are not available on the File Save As menu dropdown in Access. I have re-installed Office 97 SR-1, added SR-2b, and re-run the Data Access install, all to no avail. Both Access and Excel seem to work fine, otherwise. Where do the Excel export options get installed, and why are they missing from my installation?

I had this same problem. This is what worked for me: You need to find the setup file "Off97pro.stf" in your Office directory and rename it (This file should still be in your Office directory even if you uninstalled Office). Then try re-installing Office from your CD. Choose the Add/Remove option and make sure to check-off the Microsoft Excel Driver under the Data Access option (Data Access --->Database Drivers--->Microsoft Excel Driver). This should work. I know Microsoft has a FAQ regarding this...If this doesn't work for you let me know and I'll look up the FAQ #. Good Luck!

:)Thanks, Steph22, for your suggestion. I tried it, but that did not work either. I finally secured the help of another technician who ran the Office Uninstall, used a utility called Erase97.exe (to remove registry entries, I think), then deleted the Office directory. A reinstall of Office97, being sure to select a full install of the Excel and Data Access options, restored the Excel export options.

:-I It's apparent that Microsoft sometimes shoots itself in the foot with it's attempt to "help" its users or "protect" them from themselves. Others on this forum offered "no help" suggestions. When I indicated that I needed to export to Excel, suggesting that I export to CSV does not address the issue. My statement of the problem clearly indicated that I had used the File Save As menu to display the export options available. Apparently MIS people don't have time to read the questions!

doctorg,
I am sorry that you felt that neither myself or renrut gave your question due consideration. Not having had the pleasure of experiencing this precise problem as steph22 had, I was trying to make sure that I both understood your problem and that you were not leaving out any pertinent information. Obviously, in retrospect, your question was very clearly stated. However, never having met you and having no knowledge of your skill level, I must start with simplest scenario and work my way up in order to try to help. Fortunately, Steph22 had first-hand experience with this problem and a solution was offered quickly. We are not always this fortunate. Thanks.

Yes, mcconmw, I was a bit frank in my response. I fully understand your good intentions and the fact that I may not have understood all the possible options. It's difficult to be thorough in a problem description and be brief at the same time, though I did try!

I had good intent in responding as I did -- I hope you learned something in the exchange. X-)
