I have a pc called reception with xp pro where the hard disk was dodgy & we managed to ghost it, reload xp pro over the top & service pack it again.

When I start run

\\server1
or \\10.0.0.1 I get

"the network path was not found"

I get the same error trying to contact any pcs or shares on our lan.

I can ping both the above.

The PC is called reception &
\\reception from anywhere else brings up the shares on this pc.

I can add it to my 2003 domain & the internet on it works fine via our gateway using the primary dns of 10.0.0.1

I have deleted & reloaded

ip
ms client
the network card
&
tried another network card.
& renamed the pc
plus taken it on & off the domain

I really don't want to wipe this pc.

A long time ago this had Mcafee firewall but it was removed long before any problems

Help please !!!

It is either a DNS issue or a permissions issue:

. check that the only DNS entry for "Reception" points to your Domain DNS server IP;

. remove the machine account from the Domain. Wait an hour. Re-add the machine account.

The DNS is fine
nslookup works fine
its all dhcp which it find fine
ipconfig gives

dhcp & dns1 as 10.0.0.1
ws 10.0.0.228
subnet 255.255.255.0

i can login as any domain user ok but no mapped drives

Also

if i go to browse network & select entire network i get no icons. this is true whether i log into the domain or the local machine.

if i add netware client only the netware or compatible network icons appears ie
ms terminal services,ms windows network, web client network do not

i have uninstalled ms client & reinstalled already

help please
