hi I have a networked win98 pc on which crystal 8 is installed, and when opening a crystal file I get the message "the managed installer software failed to install the program associated with this file. Please contact your network administrator"

If the software is installed locally, I would try re-installing it. If it is on a network drive, you may not have the required permissions to access it.

hi it is installed on the local machine, thats whats suprising me, other user who log on can open up the report but not this user

hi the strange thing with this issue is that it seems to be related to one client pc as when the use logs on to another pc he can access the report

Delete that users profile on that pc, it got hosed somehow.

hi i went control panel users and deleted the user, then rebooted and logged as same user ....same problem!

The Profile may not have been deleted properly by just deleting the user by using the control panel. Delete them the way you did first but then go to C:\Windows\Profiles & delete the folder relating to that user if it exists. You could also look for the (username).pwl file, but this may not exist.

hi just to make sure that i carried out the first set of instructions correctly i applied it agian and bingo job done
thanks very much
