I have a user who every day or so gets the following message....

"An error occurred while reconnecting <drive: \\server\folder. Microsoft Windows Network : The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored."

If the user clicks on the mapped network drive 4 or 5 times it will finally reconnect. I believe Microsoft recommended killing the drive mapping and then remapping the drive. I tried this but it didn't help. An ideas would be appreciated.

I presume this problem is affecting only the workstation for that user but not other users
I have come across this problem but what I did was to reboot the system and it did not occur again
Anyway, the next time it happens use the ping and ipconfig tools for connectivity issues and your tcp/ip configurations with the servers concerned

also try removing the old mapping again and assigning it to a different drive letter if possible. and, if this isnt on SP4, go ahead and update the system to SP4.
