Hopefully someone out there can be of assistance becuase I am at a loss.
My problem is similar to the one descirbed in "List of servers ... not currently available" from 6/13 (thread950-1075544), but all of the computers ARE on the same subnet with approproate locally DHCP assigned addresses.
Some more background on my set up.
I am running a small office network using Windows File and Print Share with 7 computers, all but one running Win XP Pro. The computer in question is a brand new Dell running Win XP Pro. This was one of two identically configured machines. The other one in the batch works just fine.
This was a replacement computer and the cable and port on router were not changed. Additionally, internet browsing is flawless through the DSL line running through my netgear router. Therefore I am fairly certain it is not at the physical layer.
I pinged one of the other computers on the network from the computer in question and that worked fine. Same thing when pinging the problem computer from another on the network.
I am running a client firewall, Norton Internet Security 2005, on the problem computer which I have configured to trust all of the IPs from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.15 which covers all of the other computers in the office. The problem computer is 192.168.0.12. Other computers are also appropriatley configured. All of the other computers can still share resources as before.
Thinking that perhaps it was corrupted permissions of some variety, I have turned off file and print sharing and then turned it back on. I also have tried renaming the computer and placing it in a new workgroup and then putting back in the correct one. None of this has worked.
Please help and Happy Father's Day to all out there!
