I have installed the Windows XP, however,
I have a big problem when I use the IE 6
which is preinstalled in the Windows.
There are some links in some websites,
whenever I click it, a new window is supposed
to be opened for me to browse.
But after I stalling the Windows XP,
this function is suddenly disabled.
I can not view the things in the new
windows.
Can anyone help me? thanks!

Howdy:

Try this..

Start>Run Type in regsvr32.exe urlmon.dll (copy and paste the command if you wish) and press <enter>

After you get the confirmation dialogue, reboot.

Murray...that does not work...I tried. Maybe I can help clarify this problem more clearly since I am having the same difficulties. I just bought a new HP Pavillion with Windows XP installed and IE 6. I have had nothing but problems with this combination. My old computer ran 2000 professional and IE 6 and worked perfect!

The problems I have are the following.

As the original post states, when you click on a link within a website (a blank target, so to speak in web designers terms) it should open a NEW window OVER your old window, but still leave your old window accessable through clicking in the task bar OR on the title bar. Well, in my case the OLD window just vanishes into nowhere so I am stuck if I didn't want to leave the website I was at and I can't even use the back button since a new window opened and there is no place to go back to!!! Kinda get it?

Also, it gives error messages when you click on "Bookmarks" on a website. Now I KNOW it should work because I am a web designer and I have used the same javascript for years to insert bookmarking links into pages and I have never had a problem with my old 6.0 or any version down to 5.0.

I also get lots of freezing and end up sending about 5-10 error reports a day to microsoft about it!

Does anyone have any answers to this isssue? Thanks in advance.

Thank you. Tried everything and nothing worked. From another thread in this forum (over 120+ replies) I guess alot of people are having the same problem and there seems to be no "definate" fix to the problem...all I know is that it is driving me crazy.

I have a very similar problem. However, when I click on the link, my old window will be gone, but it is replaced with a HTTP 400 Bad Request Error. I can use this page like any normal window however. I can hit the back button and go back to the original page. I use Windows XP (pre-installed) + IE 6. Both are german versions. I tried everything so far, but no joy.

When you click on the link , is it in your email or on a web page .

Strange. I went to hotmail.com. The page loads normally. I type my email address and password in. When I hit submit...bam the window is instantly replaced with the new "HTTP 400" window. Now when I hit the back button and go back to the sign in page, I can click on any of the other links on the left side and they work normally. This has happened on various web sites...especially when I´m submitting a login or filling out forms and submitting. Any clues?

Thanks for the tip. I just read a thread about someone using Win ME was having a similar problem with SSL sites.
